Val Cash, Fay Solway and Bette McDonald
2016 Triples Champions
A repeat of last year's Triples final was played between skip Maggie Johnston and her team Karen Harradence and Lynn Murray and skip Bette McDonald and her team Val Cash and Fay Solway on 22nd May 2016.
It was a very tight game with both teams scoring mostly 1's with a sprinkling of 2's. By the 16th end the score was still only 11-9 in Bette's team's favour. A brilliant display of lead bowling by Val Cash put consistent pressure on the opposition. This was instrumental in reversing last years result to ensure a win for her team 15-12.
It was an excellent game of bowls with all players utilizing their experience and skills to produce a very high quality game.
Congratulations to all players.

2016 Minor Pairs Champions
The weekend of 14th and 15th May saw four pairs teams play in the Minor Pairs in the Round Robin format with 21 ends per game. The games provided some brilliant bowls with excellent skills demonstrated in drawing to the jack, playing on-shots as well as the all-important skills of reading the head and shot selection.
Day one resulted in 2 wins to Linda Copley who was lead to her skip Penny Auld with 1 win each to the combinations of Linda Toohey/Leslea Gruber and Fay Berry/Heather Starr.
Day two tested the players as consistently strong gusts of wind played a big part in influencing their bowling skills. However, Linda Copley and Penny Auld played wonderful bowls in these difficult conditions to score 10 shots in the final 3 ends to win their game against Fay Berry/Heather Starr to remain undefeated and win the title of Minor Pairs Champions for 2016.
Congratulations also to the runners up, Linda Toohey and Leslea Gruber.
Congratulations must go to all the players for not only keeping this event alive but giving themselves an opportunity to play in situations which require long periods of concentration and skill.
Well done to you all.
Penny Auld and Linda Copley
2016 Major Singles Champion
A rivetting game of bowls in the blue ribbon event, the Major Singles, was played between seven time winner Maggie Johnston and recent Minor Singles winner Mandy Stitt on Saturday 7th May.
The players were evenly matched until the 17th end when Maggie began to edge ahead to a lead of 7 shots by the 22nd end with the score 20 -13.
Then the real excitement began.
Mandy slowly clawed her way back into the game to reduce the lead to 4 shots with the score now 21-17, still in Maggies favour. Since the winner is determined by who reaches 25 shots first, the large crowd could be forgiven for thinking that Maggie's ability and experience would win her the game but it was not to be. Mandy maintained her composure and with consummate skill in consistently drawing to the jack scored 5 shots in the last 2 ends to win the game 25-22.
This game had everything. Skill, dexterity, exciting on-shots accompanied with the suspense of not knowing who the winner would be until the last moment.
Congratulations to both players on playing an excellent game of bowls which was witnessed by many appreciative club and family members.
